Becket and Washington's Community Library

The Becket Athenaeum

All are welcome to join us at the Athenaeum on Tuesday, July 2nd at 1:30pmto discuss Gertrude & Claudius by John Updike.

‚ÄčThis novel is the basis for a new play by Mark St. Germain which is being produced by Barrington Stage Company this summer (July 18-Aug 3). BSC will provide a 10% discount to our book club members who attend the production as a group and arrange a discussion led by either the playwright or member of BSC's artistic staff. The date selection is still in progress. Please email the performances you are available to attend to info@bwlibrary.org if you are interested in joining us.

We meet at 1:30pm on the first Tuesday of the month to discuss the book over tea/coffee and make our next selection.

Regular attendance is anywhere between 6 and 16 people. We generally wrap up by 2:45 or 3pm. We read fiction and non-fiction.

Here are a few that we've read over the years:

  • Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
  • The President is Missing by Bill Clinton & James Patterson
  • Born a Crime by Trevor Noah
  • Girl Waits With Gun by Amy Stewart
  • A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

The most recent 24 selections are available in our Book Club section. All others are shelved in their appropriate section and have "Book Club" in green on their spine label.
