This workshop will give older teens and adults a safe space to learn about some basic power tools and gain confidence using them. Participants will work together to build 1 corn hole set to be added to the Becket Athenaeum’s Library of Things, and another to be raffled off to program participants. Students will be introduced to power drills, impact drivers, a jigsaw, and various hand tools and will have the opportunity to practice measuring, marking, and attaching lumber.
This is a workshop for beginners, no experience necessary.
Women, non-binary folks, and anyone who feels they haven’t had access to tool skills are encouraged to sign-up.
All tools and materials will be provided.
For ages 15+
Will take place outdoors on the library lawn and will be cancelled or rescheduled for rain.

Kate has followed a two-laned path of teaching and working in the trades. She recently joined the Athenaeum staff as a part-time program coordinator this spring and is in the process of building a home in Becket with her partner Dan, and raising their daughter Juna. Kate has also worked as a natural builder, a tile setter, and a Kindergarten teacher. She loves introducing and teaching basic carpentry skills to others and holds a strong belief that anybody who wants to, should feel capable and empowered to build and repair our world and that it is all of our collective work to dismantle systems that oppress or hold back others.
