Becket Athenaeum Summer Reading Program
June 23 to August 22, 2026
This year’s summer theme is “Plant a Seed, Read” which means it will be a summer all about trying new things, being outdoors, and thinking about how things grow – plants, ideas, community, hobbies, etc.
This year, we’re tracking your participation with a BINGO sheet. In addition to reading, you’ll have lots of opportunities to try out different activities, games, and challenges as you complete your BINGO sheet. Come on in to the library between June 23rd and August 22nd to signup and get your BINGO board!
You’ll be working towards a prize for yourself and a prize for our community.
Prizes for You!
For each BINGO you complete (5 squares in any direction), come to the library to pick out a “seedling-size” prize from our prize bin.
Complete the full BINGO sheet and we will buy you any book of your choice AND if you recommend it, we will add a copy of that book to our library collection with your name inside (if we don’t already have it).
Giving Back to the Community
We will also be working together to fundraise for our community. Each BINGO (5 squares in any direction) earns 1 Read Bead. A full BINGO sheet earns 15 Read Beads. As you earn Beads, you choose how to distribute them by depositing them into jars corresponding with local nonprofit organizations. At the end of the summer, the library will count up all of the beads and make a donation based on the community’s votes. This summer, we will be raising money for:
The Becket Emergency Fund
The Becket Food Pantry
The Berkshire Humane Society
You can begin working on your Summer Reading BINGO challenge as soon as we kick off on June 23 and you have until August 22 to return it to the library to redeem your prize and place your Read Bead votes for the community prize.
